The longevity of a site’s life

When ordering a new website, every client surely wonders: “How long will the website last?” Theoretically, a website will exist as long as it is online and its owner pays for hosting and the domain. However, the lifecycle of a website can be much shorter. Every website has an individual lifecycle, which includes: the development period; the period of increasing popularity; the peak performance period; and the decline in popularity and decrease in profit. If you notice that the website’s performance is beginning to decline, it means that the site is not fulfilling its intended tasks. Outdated textual or graphic content inevitably leads to the end of a website’s lifecycle. Any website that has not been maintained for several years will become a dead website. The growth of a project occurs only if content is regularly added or updated.

The lifecycle of a website can depend on the type of website. For example, a promotional site can be considered short-lived. If a promotional website advertises a promotional campaign, it lasts only a few days while the campaign is ongoing. If a promotional site is advertising a product, it will last as long as the advertised product exists.

A corporate website has a lifespan of 3-5 years. A corporate website reflects the activities of a company. However, after a certain period, there are changes in the structure of the company, new products and services emerge, and priorities change. Small changes are definitely made to the site. But there comes a time when the number of these changes is so extensive that it is easier to create a new website.

The longest-lasting type of site is an online store. It constantly updates its content due to the arrival of new products or promotional events. Therefore, when creating an online store, new opportunities for changing information and design are built into its structure. The lifespan of an online store is determined only by the emergence of new technologies for presenting and processing information.

Proper website maintenance is the key to the commercial success of the company!
